SYDNEY’S glitz and glamour was on display as “the DAVE network” waltzed down the red carpet for the Mary Poppins premiere. It was a star studded affair as Dave managed to catch up with some of Australia’s finest talent. Just a few of those hitting the red carpet at the majestic Capitol Theatre, were Todd Mckenney, David Campbell, Ricki-Lee Coulter, and former Prime Minister John Howard. Stay tuned this week to see the exclusive interviews from this event, only on “the DAVE network”.
“Practically perfect in every way,” is the only description that can be used to describe the ambitious musical that is “Mary Poppins”. There’s a reason that this show was a sell out in Melbourne, and that’s the fact that it will blow you away and you will not be able to help yourself but to tell a friend that they need to see this show. With songs that you can’t help but sing along to, a costume and set design that will amaze even the most cynical of theatre goers, and all this praise is before we even mention the cast. Marina Prior and Phillip Quast play Winifred and George Banks to perfection. Matt Lee will dance his way into your heart as that lovable chimney sweep Bert. But the real break out star of the show is Verity Hunt-Ballard, she is truly magic in the role as Mary Poppins, her talent is something that needs to be seen to believed, and it’s no surprise that she is regarded as one of the best to play the role. The only word to describe this show is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
“the DAVE network” was also lucky enough to be invited to attend the opening night party, post-show. The Sydney Town Hall ballroom was turned into a rooftop party at night, with backdrop of the London skyline, chimney stacks and a ceiling full of umbrella’s. It even had it’s own lolly shop! Complete with soot-faced chimney sweeps serving food and drinks, it was truly a dazzling sight to behold, and a true extension of the show.
